A highway in China has collapsed leaving at least 19 dead and many others injured, state media has reported.
The 60-foot section of the highway, based in China’s southern Guangdong province, collapsed early on Wednesday, at around 2am. It comes after the area suffered heavy rain in the past few days.
18 cars fell down a slope on the cliffside after the long section of the road gave way, authorities say.
Witnesses have said they heard a loud noise and saw a hole open up stretching several meters wide behind them.

Videos and photos on social media show smoke and fire at the scene, with flames near the drop on the cliffside. Cars, believed to have been affected by the blaze, appear black after being led down the highway.
30 people have been rushed to hospital, CCTV reported.
It’s believed those receiving medical care are not ‘currently at risk’, but details of injuries haven’t been released.
Rescue workers and authorities are still at the scene, with around 500 people at the site.
The cause of collapse have not specified, as footage shows smoke rising from a dark pit where cars have fallen in.
