A ‘very irate’ man assaulted patrol officers with a block of cheese, police say.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the incident occurred when officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in central St John’s, at around 9pm.

Cops encountered an angry man who then assaulted the officers with a ‘block of cheese’.

He was arrested and charged with assault, assaulting a police officer and breach of probation.

The suspect was transferred to a lockup facility in St John’s while a court appearance is set.

The cops did not say if any officers suffered injuries or what kind of cheese was used during the disturbance.

It comes after a man with a one-of-a-kind name, Deez-Nuts’ was arrested in Wisconsin earlier this year.

Cops were called to an alleged disturbance on March 5 at around 10pm after an incident involving a gun.

Two people were taken to a squad car and Deez-Nuts Kroll handed over his ID card that had the strange moniker on it.

It was claimed Kroll was arguing with someone else and a physical altercation followed. It was alleged Kroll then brandished a gun, which was taken into evidence.
