Kanye West’s bizarre commercial during the Super Bowl was filmed on his phone in the back of a car.
The advert spots during the Super Bowl start in the millions, so he would have splashed out a lot of cash for the commercial. Compared to some of the big commercials running during the game, it wasn’t up to scratch. We saw Jennifer Aniston meet up with co-star David Schwimmer in a hilarious Uber Eats ad, and Michael Cera ‘coming out’ as the founder of the skincare brand CeraVe.
The Hollywood Report writes a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl starting at $7 million, with primetime spots rising to $30 million, say Beyonce who named her new album was coming out.
But Kanye, who goes by Ye, went in a different direction.
In a dark, grainy video, he says: “Hey y’all, this is Ye and this is my commercial,” before confessing he used all his money on paying for the ‘spot’ itself. He then flashed his custom titanium dentures, said to have cost $0.85 million.
He then tells fans to go to Yeezy.com before telling them he has “got some shoes” before ending the piece.
The celebrity was referring to his foldup Yeezy Pods shoes that look like socks, as well as his ‘Wet’ tank top, which his new wife Bianca Censori has been seen wearing in paparazzi photos. There are also shirts promoting his latest album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures.
However, Ozzy Osbourne recently slammed the singer, claiming he refused Ye who asked to sample one of his songs but alleged the rapper did it anyway.
His brand has shifted in years, previously Yeezy would be similar to designer prices but some of the items are now selling at just $20.
Even if he spent all his money instead of making a real commercial, he didn’t skimp out when he attended the Super Bowl with Bianca. He wore a vintage 1996 Alexander McQueen crucifix mask.
Some fans called the advert ‘genius’ but others weren’t that impressed.
One wrote: “Greatest Super Bowl commercial there is – Yeezy.”
Another said: “Kanye West spent millions of dollars on a #SuperBowlAd that he recorded with his phone to tell people to buy his shoes… He could’ve just posted that on social media for free.”
