Avril Lavigne has addressed rumors she was replaced by a doppelgänger named Melissa and the ‘real Avril’ died or retreated from public life.
The conspiracy theories began in the early 200s, which claimed she had died and was replaced by a body double, hired to represent her at public events, growing tired of the celebrity spotlight.
It’s claimed the music star died between the release of her 2002 album Let Go and Under My Skin which came two years later, with conspiracy theorists believing the record company decided to hire an Avril Lavigne doppleganger named Melissa, full-time.
But the 39-year-old isn’t fazed by the wild rumors about whether she’s dead.

She told Alex Cooper on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast: “I mean, it’s just funny to me”.
The Complicated hitmaker added: “Like, on one end, everyone’s like, ‘You look the exact same. You haven’t aged a day’. But then other people are like, there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.”
She laughs: “Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right? I feel like I got a good one. I don’t feel like it’s negative. It’s nothing creepy.
“Obviously I am me, it’s so dumb,” she said before adding: “I think that they’ve done that with other artists. I’m not the only one. I think, like, other people have that”.
The podcast host chimes in: “I’m telling you what’s crazy is you haven’t aged. I’m staring at you. And, like, I’m picturing you with your auburn hair. And I’m like, oh my God. You literally look the same from when you were younger.”
It comes after the star announced a Greatest Hits album and North American tour. Avril will release a record with 20 of her most popular songs, from Girlfriend to Sk8er Boi, and her tour begins later this month.
She’ll perform in Canada and major US cities, including California, Chicago and Las Vegas.
The Greatest Hits tour will then head across the pond to Europe.
