Steve Carell, who played The Office’s infuriating boss Michael Scott, won’t be appearing in the new spin-off series.

The beloved actor starred as the fictional regional manager of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company for seven of the nine seasons. The Peacock show’s final episode aired more than 10 years ago with TV bosses revealing this week a spin-off of The Office is in the works – but it won’t be a reboot.

Instead, it’ll feature the same mockumentary style, but follow a local newspaper office and volunteer reporters.

The Office, which saw a number of breakout stars such as John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson and Craig Robinson, has been hailed as one of the best sitcoms/TV shows in recent times with a cult following.

It received five Emmys and was nominated more than 40 years in it’s long run, with Steve Carell being on the nominees list six times for his part in The Office – something to be proud of, even if he’s not going to be in the spin-off series.

The celebrity told the Hollywood Reporter: “I will be watching, but I will not be showing up.

“That is off the cards. It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that”.

But Steve Carell did say he’s still ‘excited’ about the new spin-off series, despite it not being The Office 2.0.

Jim, played by Krasinski, is a fan of Greg Daniels who is executive producer of the original and new show. But it doesn’t look like he’ll be on the cast list either.

He said: “As of now, I haven’t been asked. But the truth is I’d do anything for Greg Daniels, it sounds like they have a really fun idea”.

Production on the new show is expected to start in July, with no release date in the pipe line just yet.

The Patient’s Domhnall Gleeson and White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore are reportedly set to star in the series.
