A storm chaser following a massive tornado touching down in Texas managed to save a family’s life at the same time.

In the live video, Freddy McKinney is capturing the storm as it arrived in Hawley on Thursday, as a family of four beg him for help.

He yells for them to ‘Hurry, get inside!’ as they run for their lives.

Kasey and Wes Lambert, and their seven-year-old son and five-year-old daughter rushed to the hospital with bruises, broken bones and lacerations.

When they ran inside, their house was ‘crashing down’ around them.

Kasey told CBS: “We saw it hit our friend’s house and we went into the closet.

“Sat down and grabbed hands. What did we do? We prayed, ‘Please keep us safe.’ Bricks are falling on us. I look up. Our house is crashing down.”

The wind was too powerful as she tried to hold onto her children, and horrifying scenes followed.

“Lane was sucked out and thrown 25 feet,” she said.

“I remember screaming for him. I thought he was dead. I thought he was gone and I had already begun mourning. And I had the only fear I ever have as a mom is not being able to rescue my child in a dangerous time. And that’s exactly what happened.”

When the storm passed they found Lane and ran to McKinney for help, if he wasn’t there, he may not have survived, she says.

The Texas tornado which ripped through Hawley damaged and destroyed other homes. The National Weather Service categorizes the storm as a strong EF3 or a weak EF4.
