A driver has died from a crash when a vehicle collided into a gate at the White House, the US Secret Service have said.
The driver was found dead inside the car after the incident, which took place shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday, authorities added.
The person crashed into an outer perimeter gate of the complex while driving ‘at a high rate of speed’.
White House Security on site raced to the scene and managed to get the driver out of the vehicle after the crash.

They attempted to give them aid, but sadly, were already dead when they had arrived.
The driver, who has not yet been identified, was an adult male, the DC Police Department said.
The Secret Service is investigating the incident while Washington Metropolitan Police Department look into the accident, the agency explained.
The WMPD said the car crashed into a security barrier at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW near the White House.
The metro police issued a statement on social media.
They said: “At this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic crash by MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.”
Anthony Guglielmi, communications chief for the Secret Service, tweeted at midnight on Sunday detailing traffic closures were in place as emergency services worked the scene. He added there was no ‘threat’ or public safety implications.
