Coachella makes major change to alcohol rule as festival gets underway

Coachella appears to have made a major change to its alcohol rule this year after clips were shared on social media.

It seems Coachella has removed beer gardens that prevented people from carrying their alcohol around the grounds, which is different from the rule in previous years, where attendees were only permitted to drink in certain areas that were fenced off.

Footage shared on social media shows bars spread around the festival site. They are accessible to anyone who has a 21+ wristband.

On Twitter, now known as X, GDE wrote about the alcohol rule: “One of the things the 21+ crowd absolutely HATED about Coachella was the fact you couldn’t walk around with a drink in hand, but it looks like that has changed this year as they’ve added bars throughout the festival.”

The post featured a video of the new bar layout.

Aside from Coachella’s alcohol rule changing, the festival kicked off yesterday, April 12. Performances from Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Skepta helped it get underway for 2024.

Lana Del Rey headlined the first night set, as well as featured rapper Lil Uzi Vert and K-pop group Ateez.

Coachella, which is spread over two weekends, will have more headline performances from celebrity Doja Cat and Tyler the Creator. But don’t worry if you miss your favorite music stars, as the second weekend will have the same artists performing at both, with next week kicking off on Friday April 19.

Fans will be hoping there’s no chaos last year after Frank Ocean pulled out last-minute from his second weekend after a ‘manic’ performance.

Aside from the stars on stage, they also filter about the crowds, with Vanessa Hudgens a regular attendee. She has been dubbed the Queen of Coachella from the number of times she’s seen enjoying the event.

Taylor Swift fans are hoping to see the icon there too, with rumors she pay pop along with beau Travis Kelce.

The singer is enjoying a well-earned break from her Eras Tour, before the European leg of the almost two-year stretch begins in May.

Although the tight end and Lover hitmaker haven’t confirmed they’ll be going – but they never seem to before a big event.

For anyone who can’t attend, the Coachella livestream will be on the official YouTube channel, and you don’t have any alcohol rules at homes to follow!
