Schoolgirl wears most sweaters ever worn at once – but people think they can ‘easily’ beat her record

A schoolgirl from Washington has broken the record for the most sweaters worn at once.

Sophia Hayden was put to the sweaty test and managed to wear 45, beating the previous record of 40, which was held by 11-year-old Thomas Hocquet-Umambo in France.

The USA native put each of the sweaters on, with each garment increasing in size to make it easier to fit.

She’s not the first in her family to have a Guinness World Record, her mom, Allesandra, holds the record for the longest marathon crocheting too. Despite her talents, she wasn’t allowed to crochet her daughter’s sweaters for her record attempt, as they had to be commercially available.

Alessandra collected the sweaters from various stores, including Target, Kohl’s and Old Navy.

Young Sophia attempted the record at her local library and then donated the clothing to charity.

The strange record was first reported in 2014 when Guillermo Rodriguez managed to wear 25 sweaters on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Then two years later, serial record breaker Andre Ortolf beat it by wearing 26, before Theodore Kinsella took the title five years later by wearing 30. It was in 2022 when young Thomas became the first child to storm the crown, and now Sophia has surpassed that by a huge amount.

However, some viewers think they can trump little Sophia.

One wrote on YouTube: “This is a record I could easily beat”, and a second quipped a Friends reference: “Could she BE wearing any more clothes”.

A third pondered: “I don’t understand records like this. It’s so random”.

And a fourth added: “I bet the hardest part was avoiding overheating. The expressions she was making were hilarious, though.”
