An incredible photo shows the city of Shanghai, the most populous city in China and one of the biggest cities in the world, from space.
Shanghai has a population of around 26.3 million – that’s more than Chicago – and is the country’s global financial hub.
It sits off the coast near the East China Sea and has the Huangpu River flowing through downtown.
The new photo, released by NASA, shows the city lights of Shanghai glistening from below. The picture was taken from the International Space Station as it orbited 260 miles above.

It’s known for the futuristic skyline in the Pudong district, including the 632m Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower which has pink spheres.
Its shopping district in Nanjing Road compares to Oxford Street in London and Champs-Elysees in Paris as one of the bustling commercial streets around the globe. An estimated one million people venture there to shop each day. It’s made up of Chinese food outlets, stores and modern malls.
