Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey swept the Razzie Awards last night after being named Worst Picture of the Year and winning four other awards.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, a satire award show, highlights the ‘worst’ in Hollywood and has been running for 44 years. It takes place the night before the Oscars which is set to begin tonight, Sunday, March 10.

The slasher film, which was a horror twist on AA Milne’s classic tale, reimagined the lovable characters of the Hundred Acre Wood and turned them into serial killers.

The flick won five out of the 10 categories, including, Worst Picture, Screenplay, Director, and Rip-off. Pooh and Piglet also won Worst On-Screen Couple.

Sylvester Stallone‘s Expend4bles also picked up two awards, which would add to his collection as Sly is the actor who has won the most statues at the Razzies so far, this would now make his total 10, including himself and films he worked in.

The event, which names and shames the previous year’s worst films, describes itself as the “ugly cousin to the Oscars”.

However, the bad reviews that followed for Blood and Honey haven’t prevented director Rhys Frake-Waterfield from continuing head first into a sequel. He also announced he’s going to focus on other beloved children’s characters, say Bambi and Peter Pan.

The filmmakers jumped at the chance to make a twisted version of Winne the Pooh after the copyright expired. According to US copyright laws, rights to characters can be held for 95 years but after that time passes, it can be legally shared, reused, performed, repurposed, or sampled by anyone without paying or seeking permission.

Earlier this year, the copyright for Walt Disney’s animated short, Steamboat Willie, originally released in 1928, expired.

A new slasher film trailer, featuring a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse, was released the same day the copyright expired.

On the same day, a new Mickey-inspired horror game dropped.

Despite sweeping the Razzies, Blood and Honey didn’t bag Worst Actor and Actress, with them going to Jon Voight and Meghan Fox. Fox won Worst Actress for her part in Johnny & Clyde, as well as, Worst Supporting Actress for her role in Expend4bles.
