Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith, who has entered Celebrity Big Brother, could undermine the palace, sources have claimed.
The Princess of Wales’ uncle has been in the Celebrity Big Brother house for a day and already made comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
The 58-year-old entered the UK TV reality show alongside a host of other celebrities, including Sharon Osbourne.
However, some commentators are claiming Kate’s uncle signing up for the paycheck from the reality show could undermine their calls to maintain The Firm’s right to privacy. It comes after Kate Middleton has been avoiding the spotlight after undergoing abdominal surgery earlier this year. Her absence caused a stir with social media users last week who jumped on the bandwagon of strange conspiracy theories on where she was ‘hiding’. This was despite the palace confirming ahead of her procedure, she wouldn’t be returning to royal duties until after Easter.
It also led to the palace releasing a rare statement to say nothing strange was going on.
Newsweek’s The Royal Report podcast says having extra eyes on a family member of the royal household is exactly what the palace doesn’t want.
“The whole KP [Kensington Palace] stance is at its heart, an appeal to the mainstream media to take the higher ground and ignore social media,” Jack Royston said.
“So, in other words, they’re kind of saying ‘be the better people, let the social media gossip, be the social media gossip, you’re above that and you can show the respect that you have for the Princess of Wales’ right to privacy over her health.’
“The palace is saying that’s what they’re doing, they’ve always maintained that they will respect her privacy and they’re not going to budge from that stance.
“But, if her own uncle fails to maintain that stance, then they’re going to look completely ridiculous and he won’t even need to say very much to completely blow up their whole position. If he says anything at all about Kate’s health their appeal to privacy lies in ruins.”

However, considering Goldsmith couldn’t resist discussing the royals within his first day in the house, it doesn’t look promising.
He told Sharon Osbourne – who is only staying in the house for five days – he finds it hard to get in touch with his niece.
“It’s difficult to get hold of Kate at the best of times…She’s busy and she’s got children and I love the fact that she’s putting family first,” he said. Although it seems he’s trying his best to give them good publicity.
“Her and William are the savior of the royal family. Although I have to say I think [King] Charles has done a spectacular job,” he added.
Although concern he’d go over the line and speak about Kate’s health could be on the cards. He spoke to the Daily Mirror before heading in over the conspiracy theories on her absence.
He said: “I think they should leave her alone right now because there’s a reason why [the Royal family’s] not talking about it and they are giving her a little bit of space.”
Goldsmith then continued: She’s the number one royal for a reason and I just beg people to give her some space. I do think that they’re changing the dynamic and they are family-centric.
“They’ve got duty and it’s a privilege to have the roles that they do have, but it’s family first. You’ve got to look after yourself. You put your own oxygen mask on before you look after others. Kate, get well, love you, and when you’re ready we’ll see you again. That’s what we do to anyone else, why not her?”
