Climbing stairs can help people live longer, researches have found.
Exercise is great for our bodies and has often been associated with a longer, healthier life. But a team of scientists have found climbing stairs in particular can help you live longer if that’s one of your long-term goals.
The study, conducted by University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust, Norwich, UK, says take the stairs every single time.
Dr Sophie Paddock, the study author, added: “If you have the choice of taking the stairs or the lift, go for the stairs as it will help your heart.

“Even brief bursts of physical activity have beneficial health impacts, and short bouts of stair climbing should be an achievable target to integrate into daily routines.”
One in four adults around the world are not meeting the recommended levels of exercise, but climbing stairs is not only easy and budget-friendly, it can make you live longer, the research suggests.
The study looked into whether climbing stairs could reduce premature death and the risks of cardiovascular disease.
The researchers collected nine studies which detailed more than 480,000 participants to conduct meta-analysis.
They found climbing stairs was associated with a 24% rdeuced risk of drying from any cause, and 39% lower from cardiovascular disease. It also was linked to reducing heart attacks, strokes and heart failure.
Dr. Paddock said: “Based on these results, we would encourage people to incorporate stair climbing into their day-to-day lives.
“Our study suggested that the more stairs climbed, the greater the benefits — but this needs to be confirmed. So, whether at work, home, or elsewhere, take the stairs.”
So for your health, take the stairs next time.
