Michael Cera is the unsung hero in Barbie.

The Hollywood star, who has welcomed his second son with his wife, Nadine, spoke to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show about how his role in the hit movie wasn’t planned. Cera’s role in the billion-dollar blockbuster was worked out last minute and he wasn’t meant to be in the script.

Cera plays Allan, who is a different doll from all the Kens in Barbieland.

Jimmy tells the Superbad star: “You starred in one of the biggest movies of all time, you were fantastic in Barbie. Unbelievable.”

Cera says: “It was an amazing thing to be a part of, I can’t believe I had a chance to be a part of it. It came out of nowhere for me. I think I was last minute replacement of someone they actually wanted.

“Great job for me,” he joked.

The host then asks: “I heard you did a fight scene, you danced, I heard that wasn’t supposed to be in it?”

The 35-year-old replies: “I do a fight scene in the movie and it’s a very last-minute thing, it wasn’t written in the script or planned, I wasn’t trained or prepared for it.

“And I had just gotten over Covid, my whole family had Covid including my baby boy – he’s great, we all got over it. But they had me doing like the warm-up for the fight and hopping in a circle with the stunt guys, and after that, I had to lie down in my room for two hours.”

“I think I’m gonna die right now,” he joked.

Then Jimmy says fans want an Allan spin-off movie, and the crowd cheers in agreement.

But Cera says: “It’d be a weird movie, but I’m there. Allan is an inactive character. My biggest inspiration was Hans Moleman from The Simpsons who just stands there”.

It comes after Cera’s Super Bowl commercial for CeraVe for playing the ‘founder’ of the skincare brand, which was the most Michael Cera thing he could do.
