Marvel fans slam Fantastic Four reboot cast reveal – ‘this is a downgrade’

Marvel has finally announced the cast for the highly-anticipated reboot of Fantastic Four, but some film fans aren’t happy about it.

The movie, which focuses on four people who unexpectedly obtain superpowers after a freak storm in space, will be released in summer 2025.

Pedro Pascal will be joined by The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn and Vanessa Kirby.

Emmy-nominated star Pascal will play Reed Richards, or Mr Fantastic, and Kirby who starred opposite Joaquin Phoenix Napoleon, has been cast as his girlfriend Sue Storm, or the Invisible Woman. Emmy-winning actor Moss-Bachrach will play The Thing, or Ben Grimm, who is Reed’s friend, and Joseph Quinn who starred as Eddie in Stranger Things, will play Sue’s brother Johnny Storm, AKA The Human Torch.

Marvel announced the cast in the form of a Valentine’s card on February 14.

The original films came out in 2005 and 2007, led by Chris Evans and Jessica Alba. They racked in around $630m worldwide, and another reboot in 2015 saw Michael B Jodan and Miles Teller try to bring it back but it didn’t hit with audiences.

The flick will be directed by Matt Shakman, known for working on WandVision ,The Great and Succession.

Pascal is set to return for the second season of The Last of Us, while Kirby received an Oscar nod for Pieces of a Woman and will be featured in the next Mission: Impossible movie.

Moss-Bachrach will star in the upcoming third season of The Bear set to come out this summer, as well as the horror movie Dust opposite American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson.

Over the next two years, Quinn, who gained critical and fan recognition for his breakout role in Netflix’s Stranger Things, will appear in three movies including Fantastic Four. He’s on the bill for Gladiator 2 and A Quiet Place: Day One which are coming out this year.

But not all Marvel fans were upset by the news. One said: “I’m against remakes usually but I am waiting for this.”

And another added: “I think that Marvel absolutely nailed this casting. Love these choices.”

Fantastic Four is set to release on July 25, 2025.
