He explained: “Today is actually my wife’s birthday.
“I’m so sad because she’s not here in New York with me. I’m here working and she’s back home. I feel so terrible. I texted Jimmy and I said ‘can I give her a special birthday present on the show?'”
Fallon chimed in: “We’re here to make dreams come true,” handing him a guitar that he had hidden behind his desk.
He introduced the cover before serenading his wife, Tasha McCauley, through the TV screen in front of millions.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt said of Taylor Swift: “This is a song by a singer-songwriter she really loves.
“Babe, you’re the most luminous soul I’ve ever met. I’m so grateful you were born, and I’m coming home soon. Love you”.
The Inception actor then starting singing Lover, performing the first verse and chorus along with Fallon.
The duo tied the knot in December 2014, and they welcomed their first child in August the following year. They then gave birth to their second son in June 2017.
